This Isn’t Fitness Kickboxing. This Is Martial Arts Training.
There’s a version of kickboxing where you follow along to music, punch the air, and leave sweaty. That’s fine. This isn’t that.
At Competitive Edge Karate, our kickboxing program is a structured striking system — the same foundation behind our branded StrikeCraft curriculum — built on the principles Kyoshi Roger Dabney has developed over 30+ years of martial arts training and competition.
Every class has a purpose. Every combination has a reason. And every student follows a progression that builds real skill over time — not just calories burned.
What that means for you:
You learn how to punch, kick, and move — not just that you did itYou progress through a curriculum with measurable growthYou develop striking skills that translate to real self-defense awarenessYou train under an instructor with a national competitive ranking — not a fitness certification
What You’ll Build Here
Our program combines cardio, power, and functional movement into every session. You’ll build endurance, burn fat, and develop a level of physical conditioning most gym programs can’t replicate — because you’re moving with purpose, not just volume.
Punches, kicks, elbows, knees — you’ll learn to execute them with proper form, timing, and power. That’s what separates our program from a group fitness class: you’re actually learning something.
Understanding how to strike effectively changes the way you carry yourself. You’ll develop the awareness, instincts, and confidence to handle yourself if you ever need to — without paranoia, just preparedness.
Every class pushes you past the point where you want to quit. That’s not accidental. It’s where the real training happens — and where mental toughness gets built alongside physical fitness.
Because we teach a structured curriculum, you’ll know when you’re improving. Combinations get sharper. Movement gets cleaner. Reactions get faster. You don’t have to guess — you’ll feel it.
Built for Adults Who Want More Than a Workout
You’ve probably tried gyms. Maybe you’ve done group fitness. Maybe you’ve thought about martial arts but assumed it was for kids or MMA fighters.
This program was designed for people who want their fitness to mean something — who want to get in the best shape of their adult life and walk out with real skills they didn’t have before.
You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be athletic. You need to show up ready to learn.
Our students include:
- Working adults who want structured, purposeful training after work
- Parents who want to model discipline and toughness for their kids
- People returning to fitness after years away from it
- Former athletes who want to compete with something again — even if just with themselves
- Anyone who’s ever wondered if they could actually handle themselves
How Our Kickboxing Program Works
Our adult kickboxing classes run in a structured format led by Kyoshi Roger Dabney and CEK instructors. Here’s what to expect:
Class length: approximately 50–60 minutes. Open to ages 13 and up — no prior experience required.
Every class begins with dynamic movement prep — footwork, stance, and mobility work that primes your body and reinforces foundational positioning.
Kyoshi breaks down the session’s focus — a punch combination, kick mechanics, defensive movement, or striking sequence — with coaching cues that make technique stick.
You practice the technique through structured repetitions, pad work, or partner drills. This is where skill gets built.
High-output rounds that push your cardio and reinforce the techniques in a more dynamic, fatigue-resistant context.
Classes close with a wind-down and brief debrief — what you worked on, what to focus on next time, and the habit of intentional training.
How We Compare
Not all kickboxing is the same. Here’s how a structured striking program at Competitive Edge Karate stacks up against generic fitness kickboxing and big-box gyms. Both of the options below can be beginner-friendly — but only one is actually teaching you to strike.
You follow along to whatever the class does that day. There’s no progression map, so it’s hard to know if you’re actually getting better.
Generic classes may show partial technique; big-box gyms rarely teach striking at all. Form, timing, and power take a back seat to sweat.
Without a curriculum, there’s no way to see skill develop. You’re measured by how tired you are, not by what you can do.
Punching the air or a bag to music doesn’t build the distance, timing, and awareness that real self-defense requires.
Classes are often led by fitness instructors with a certification — not a nationally ranked martial artist with decades on the mat.
Every class fits into a progression built on our StrikeCraft system, so each session moves you forward on purpose.
You learn to execute punches, kicks, elbows, and knees with proper form, timing, and power — not just volume.
You can feel and see the growth: sharper combinations, cleaner movement, faster reactions.
Our striking is grounded in practical application — real power, real distance and timing, real awareness.
You train under Kyoshi Roger Dabney, a nationally ranked martial artist with 30+ years of experience.

When you train here, you’re not following a franchise playbook. You’re learning from someone who built this program from the ground up — and has been refining it for over 30 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
None at all. Our program is designed to meet you where you are. Beginners learn foundational movement and technique from day one. You’ll never feel lost — our instructors teach the why behind every movement.
It’s both — intentionally. You’ll get a serious workout every session. But unlike a fitness kickboxing class, you’re also building real striking technique through a structured curriculum with measurable progression. Fitness is a byproduct of learning to move well.
Yes. Our striking curriculum is grounded in practical application — not choreography. You’ll learn to generate real power, understand distance and timing, and develop the awareness that comes from trained repetition.
Comfortable athletic wear and supportive training shoes. We’ll point you toward any additional gear (like gloves) once you’re enrolled. Don’t overthink it for your first week.
Most new students notice improved conditioning within 2–3 weeks of consistent training. Striking skill develops progressively — expect to feel noticeably more comfortable and capable within your first month.
We recommend 2–3 sessions per week to build momentum and skill retention. Consistency compounds fast in a structured curriculum.
Absolutely. The conditioning demands of structured kickboxing training — combined with the fact that you’re learning and engaged rather than going through the motions — make it highly effective for fat loss and body-composition change.
Our adult kickboxing classes are open to ages 13 and up. We have students ranging from teenagers to adults well into their 40s and 50s.
